Insulation
Where is insulation installed in a home?Insulation may be installed in the roof space, under the floor or in the walls. In a non-insulated house, the greatest heat loss (30 - 40%) occurs through the roof, due to the tendency of warm air to rise. Insulating the ceiling cavity of your house will lead to significant savings in heating and improvement in comfort. The heat loss area through the floor is about 10 – 15%. Effective under-floor insulation removes that cold air layer pushing all your heat to the ceiling. If the under-floor insulation material is also a vapour barrier, it will prevent ground moisture entering the house. A significant heat loss of approximately 20 - 30% occurs through the walls. Wall insulation levels should be maximized when the building is constructed, because upgrading at a later stage is difficult and expensive. How can I insulate my home?
